Reconciliation :Ganduje demands apology from Sanusi

Kano State Governor, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has been quoted as saying that Emir Muhammad Sunusi II must publicly apologise to him and the entire people of Kano State for allegedly dragging the Emirate Council into politics for the ongoing reconciliation moves to yield the desired result.

Ganduje, in his 45-paragrah response to an article, ‘Letter to Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje,’ written by one Jibrin Ibrahim in respect of the face-off between the duo, also said, “Emir Sanusi has the moral burden to withdraw all court cases he’s personally sponsoring against Kano State Government as part of reconciliation conditions.”

The rejoinder, written by the immediate-past Kano State Commissioner for Information, Mallam Muhammed Garba, on behalf of the state governor, read, “It is very important to state that for the reconciliation to yield the desired result, Emir Sanusi has the moral burden to publicly apologise to Governor Ganduje and the entire people of Kano State for dragging the revered Kano Emirate into the murky water of politics.

Bandits on Thursday continued the attacks, which they started on Sunday, in the Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State.

The NATIONAL TRUST learnt that the bandits had sacked eight villages and displaced over 1,000 people.

It was learnt that scores of people were killed in the sustained attacks, while several people, who were injured, were rushed to various hospitals.

It was also gathered that displaced villagers had sought refuge in seven internally displaced persons’ camps.

Our correspondent also learnt that over 800 heads of cattle had been rustled.

Confirming the attacks and the killings, the Police Public Relations Officer, Muhammad Abubaka, told one of our correspondents on the telephone, “For now, our record shows 12 deaths so far.”

Abubakar added that the state police command had drafted its men in collaboration with other security agencies to the troubled areas to ensure the security of lives and property.

The Deputy Governor of Niger State, Ahmed Ketso, had on Wednesday read the riot act to the hoodlums.

He stated this in Kuta, headquarters of the Shiroro Local Government Area of the state after a condolence visit and on-the-spot assessment of communities attacked by the hoodlums.

The deputy governor had said, “This administration frowns on any extra-judicial killing. Mr Governor has directed me to express his concern and displeasure at the killings and destruction unleashed on innocent people on Sunday. No stone will be left unturned to apprehend and bring the perpetrators to justice.”

The deputy governor assured victims that the government would take care of their medical bills, while adequate security had been provided in the affected areas.

lso, gunmen in the early hours of Thursday kidnapped the wife of the Taraba State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Mr Peter Gambo, Abigail.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, David Misal, who confirmed the incident, said the wife of the state NLC chairman and the Chief Executive Officer of Our Nation Bread Company, Emeka Okoronkwo, were abducted from their houses in the Magami area of Jalingo around 1am on Thursday.

“It is confirmed that two people were kidnapped and one injured by yet-to-be identified gunmen in the early hours of Thursday in Jalingo,” he said.

The NLC chairman said, “They (the gunmen) whisked my wife after shooting continuously in the compound.

“I have made a written statement to the police on the incident. The abductors have yet to contact me or any family member for ransom.”

Gambo also confirmed that the owner of Our Nations Bread Bakery, who is his neighbour, was also kidnapped.

It was gathered that the kidnappers shot the gateman of Okoronkwo in the leg during the operation, which lasted for over 40 mminutes

The All Progressives Congress has congratulate President Muhammadu Buhari, and its National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, for the party’s victory in the election of Principal Officers for the Ninth National Assembly.

The party also congratulated governors, the National Executive Committee, the National Working Committee, other party leaders; members and supporters on the success of its candidates.

In a veiled reference to the Peoples Democratic Party, the APC said the victories of its candidates signalled the defeat of impunity of a minority party.

Senator Ahmad Lawan was elected as the Senate President; Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, Deputy Senate President; Femi Gbajabiamila, Speaker and Idris Wase as Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives.

According to a statement by the National Publicity Secretary, Lanre Issa-Onilu, the landslide victory by APC candidates is a triumph of democracy and party politics over the brazen lawlessness of anti-democratic forces in the opposition party.

The statement said, “Our party has consistently maintained that the leadership of the National Assembly belongs to the party in the majority. The outcome of these elections has clearly validated our party’s efforts to institutionalise party discipline and loyalty.

“It is triumph of internal democracy, anchored on consensus building, to which we lay claim, over anti-democratic methods that the Peoples Democratic Party had foisted on our democracy over 16 years.

“We are deeply humbled by the honour bestowed on our great party. While members of our great party are entitled to savour this victory, we call on all to avoid pettiness and to continue to stretch hands of fellowship to progressive forces in other political parties and groups to consolidate our democracy.

“On the strength of our overwhelming numerical strength in the just inaugurated ninth National Assembly and election of the party’s adopted candidates as presiding officers in its two chambers, we must recommit to cooperation between the executive and legislative arms of government.”

A CNN panel had a pretty pessimistic view of the U.S.-Mexico deal President Trump announced Friday in hopes of ending the migration crisis.

Late Friday, Trump tweeted that threatened U.S. tariffs against Mexico were being "indefinitely suspended" because Mexico had agreed to help slow the flow of migrants heading toward the U.S. border.

But some folks on the liberal news network were not impressed.

Former Republican U.S. Rep. Charlie Dent called the negotiations "bluster" and insisted that Trump never would have gone through with his tariff threat because it would have hurt border states like Texas, where he noted that Democrat Joe Biden was leading Trump in a new poll on the 2020 presidential race.

CNN global affairs analyst Susan Glasser also panned the Trump deal.

"We're all sort of props in this fake game of, you know, 'Let's Stick Up The Neighbors'," she said. "To me, it's such a predictable play here because we've seen President Trump run it so many times before.

"At the beginning of the week," she added, "how many people in Washington thought this is exactly where we would be on Friday night?"

"I think everybody did," CNN anchor Don Lemon responded.

Glasser went on to say Trump "failed completely" to control the border and slammed the "lack of normal policy process" leading up to the deal, calling the whole thing "theater."

CNN contributor and former Trump biographer Michael D'Antonio insisted this was no "art of the deal."

"He created this drama on Monday or Tuesday," D'Antonio said, "and I swear they must have locked up the Mexican delegation in the State Department to keep them there for nine or ten hours and then fed them well and they all had a laugh and they let them out and they said, 'Well, the problem is solved.'

"Well, there was no problem the beginning of the week to solve that was extraordinary," he added, "and now we just have this solution that nobody understands and that won't produce what the president actually promised, which was a big, beautiful wall that Mexico would pay for."

"Is this all about reelection?" Lemon asked.

"Of course it is," D'Antonio answered.

Lemon then invoked the nation's job numbers for May, which fell below expectations, and questioned if Trump's deal had anything to do with the weak stats.

"Do you think that may have weighed in on the president's decision to make a deal, maybe any deal here?" Lemon asked the Never-Trump Republican.

"I do," Dent responded. "The jobs report was clearly not what anybody wanted."

The National Secretary General of the Urhobo Progress Union Youth Wing worldwide,Comrade Kelly Efemena Umukoro has urged all well meaning Urhobo sons and daughters at home and in the diaspora to rally round and support Senator Ovie Omo-Agege for the Deputy Senate President position.

This development was contain in a communique issued at the end of a joint meeting between the Union and other youth Stakeholders of the region on their position in the aspiration of Senator Ovie Omo-Agege for the Deputy Senate President, maintaining that, Omo-Agege as an Urhobo Senator has represented the good people of the Delta central loftily by championing the affairs of the Delta Central Senatorial District via his laudable and commendable projects.

while appealing to all Urhobos to reflect and consolidate on the development that the Senator has done in his first tenure, advised the self acclaim pressure group known as "Urhobo Political Group, UPG",to desist from abusing the sensibility of Urhobo people by endorsing our neighbor against our brother due to some personal gain, noting that this group exist only on pages of newspaper and do not have the constitutional power to Speak on behalf of the Urhobo people .

He advised the group to stop the disunity and all illegal activities that they are currently fueling against the senator and see the Urhobo interest above their own interest, The secretary maintains that UPU is the only recognised body to speak for the entire Urhobo Nation .

His words" I want to say that the so called Urhobo Political Group UPG only exist on the pages of the newspapers and can not speak for the Urhobo nation, I appeal to all Urhobo sons and daughters to support our son and leader, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege for the Deputy Senate President of Nigeria ".

He added" Urhobos who are aggrieved should know that " when two brothers fight deadly over their inheritance a total stranger inherits their property, and I want to again urged the Urhobo nation to live and let's live together as one and be good ambassadors of the Urhobo nation".

Umukoro continues "Senator Omo Agege is the rehearsal of urhobo progress and if supported would position us in map of Nigeria politics in return we shall revive our glory and take our right pride of place"

Similarly, Dr. S.O odidi 1st Deputy President of the body has also appealed to the Senators of the 9th Assembly to vote for Ovie Omo Agege for the purpose of fairness and equity.

Odidi added that the South East of the country has held the office for 12yrs, and voting for Senator Omo Agege will give the South South people a sense of belonging.

Senator Omo Agege being an ex SSG to Delta state government has gained a lot of experience which makes him more qualified for the position, As a lawyer: the Senator has sponsored people oriented bills and Co- sponsored other numerous bills . The convener of the meeting comrade Umukoro used the opportunity to ask the Urhobo nation and South South people at large to continue to pray for the senator as he believes the Senator is just an apostle God wants to use in bringing Light to the region. He said the office of the DSP belongs to the Urhobo Nation, Deltans and South South in general because the Aspiration Of the senator cut across party line.

He thanked other leaders who attended the meeting for their solidarity and assumed them of the continue mutual respect and bond from the entire urhobo youths.

Kokodiagbene Secondary School Wins 3rd Edition of Sheriff Mulade Essay Quiz Competition.

Kokodiagbene Secondary School has won the 3rd edition of the Sheriff Mulade Essay quiz competition organized for schools in Warri South West local government areas of Delta state.

Our correspondent gathered that Kokodiagbene Secondary School score 16 points to clinch the first position, Gbaraun Grammar School took second with 14 points while St. Cletus Secondary school scored 12 points for third position.

A total number of six secondary schools from SS1-SS3 in the riverine communities participated in this years competition tagged " Peace and Unity Quiz and Essay Competition" with the theme" Rural Education, Challenges and the way Forward ".

In her opening remarks, the Chief Inspector of Education Warri South West local government area, Mrs. Okerie Christiania asserted that the competition is geared towards promoting and improving the standard of education among school students in the riverine area, maintaining that it will also promote and sustain the peace and Unity among the various communities non the area. She then commended the organizer, Comrade Sheriff Mulade for this initiative over the years and prayed for God's protection and increase in this live and the Africa Center for Peace.

On his part, the organizer of the event Comrade Sheriff Mulade Mulade who was represented at the event by Miss Rita Ehimen, expresses satisfaction at the manner in which the event was conducted, noting that the Africa Center for Peace will continue to sustain the program, partner with relevant organizations, individuals and other NGOs to improve the educational standard not only in the riverine communities bit the nation at large and also to promote peace among our brothers and sisters in the riverine areas.
Present at the ceremony include, Mr. Sam, Mr. Olasupo Olatoke from the Africa Center for Peace, teachers from all the participated schools, community leaders, among others.

Similarly, the Center for Peace and Environmental Justice (CEPEJ) has joined the rest of the world to celebrate the 2019 World Environmental Day in the Oil City of Warri.

In a press statement made available to newsmen, the National Coordinator of the CEPEJ, Comrade Sheriff Mulade expressed gratitude to God for this year world Environmental Day.

His words" we appreciate God Almighty for making us to celebrate another world environment day with the theme "Air Pollution” as the theme for this year’s edition, the world is coming together to beat air pollution and promote green environment as well free gas emissions".

The team also visited the abandoned proposed permanent site for Ijakpa primary school and expressed dissatisfaction at the slow pace of work and urged the Chairman of Uvwie Council and the Delta state government, to do the needful as a matter or urgency.

Dogara, Gbajabiamila, others shows last respect to Hon. Bago's mother

The burial of the mother of Mohammed Umar Bago, Hajiya Aisha Mohammed, in Niger State on Sunday, nearly turned to a political gathering of bigwigs in the National Assembly, as major contenders of the Speakership position of the House of Representatives assembled to bid farewell to the deceased.

National Trust reported that Hon. Bago, a frontline aspirant to the position of Speakership of House of Representatives, lost his mother on Saturday, after a brief illness.

She was buried after Janaizah prayers at the Minna Central Mosque, Bosso road on Sunday.

Bago represents Chanchanga federal constituency which encompasses Minna, the state capital, thus attracting thousands of political players across party divide, the traditional institution and residents of the city.

No fewer than 90 lawmakers, old and new members, paid their last respects.

Among them were the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, Hon. John Dyegh and Olubunmi Odebunmi.

Other key members of the House that were around to commesirate with Bago included Hons. Mukthar Betara, Zakari Mohammed, Abdulmumuni Jibrin, Rima Shawulu and Abdulsamad Dasuki.

Others included the 9 other members elect from Niger state namely Shehu Sale, Jafaru Agwara, Abdullahi Musa,
Abubakar Lado, Shehu Beji, Saidu Umar, Mahmoud Agaie, Abdullahi Kontagora and Abdullahi Gbatamangi.

Senator elect, Haliru Jika from Bauchi state, Hon. Yunusa Abubakar from Gombe, Hon. Idris Kabir from Kano State, Abdulsadiq Maiyanma, Rufai Chachangi and Sani Idris Kutigi were also on hand to pay their respects.

Dogara, who spoke on behalf of the House leadership prayed to God to give the family the fortitude to bear the loss.

He said: “On behalf of the Leadership and entire Members of the House of Representatives, I commiserate with our colleague and brother, Hon Mohammed Umar Bago, over the demise of his beloved mother Hajiya Aishatu Mohammed.

“I pray the Almighty God grant the entire family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss. May her gentle soul rest in perfect peace.”

The newly sworn in Governor of Bauchi State, Sen. Bala Mohammed, his deputy, Sen. Baba Tella, and 17 newly elected law makers in the state have compiled with the provision of the law in the Code of Conduct Bureau to declare their assets.

Though details of the assets were not made available to newsmen, but records obtained from the Code of Conduct Bureau, CCB, office in Bauchi State indicated that Bala Mohammed who was sworn in as the 16th governor of Bauchi state on Wednesday submitted his asset declaration form, CCB1, 28th of March 2019, a day before his inauguration likewise his deputy.

A source at the CCB who spoke in confidence with the Nation said the governor submitted his form through his elder brother, Alh. Adamu Duguri who is the Wakili of Bauchi and his new Chief of Staff, Alh. Abubakar Kari.

The source revealed further that 17 newly elected lawmakers have also submitted their assets declaration form. He said those that are yet to declare have a deadline of second week of July if not they won’t be allowed to take any oath of office.

The date of submission and signatures of the lawmakers was captioned in the CCB form.

The lawmakers that have submitted their forms include; Yusuf Mohammed Bako of Pali Constituency, Bala Abdullahi Dau of Duguri/Gwana Constituency, Jamilu Umaru Dahiri, Bauchi Constituency, Musa Mante Barraza, Dass Constituency, Yunusa Ahmed, Warji Constituency, Tukur Ibrahim ,Toro/Jama’a Constituency, Abubakar Suleiman, Ningi Constituency, Ado Wakili, Burra Constituency.

Others are; Baballe Abubakar Damnam of Dambam/Daganda/Jalam Constituency, Gazali Abubakar Wunti, Ganjuwa East Constituency, Yusuf Inuwa Dadiye, Ganjuwa West Constituency, Mukhtar A. Suleiman, Katagum Constituency, Wanzam Mohammed, Jama’re Constituency, Sale Hodi Jibir, Disina Constituency, Bello Mu’azu Shira, Shira Constituency, Tijani Mohammed Aliyu, Azare/Madangalo Constituency

The source revealed further that aides, personal assistant, senior special assistant to be appointed by the Governor will make their assets declaration 90 days within the period of appointment.

Meanwhile, Newsmen also learnt that the Bala’s predecessor, Abubakar Mohammed and his Deputy, Sule Audu Katagum, made their assets declaration earlier before the inauguration of the new administration.

The forms were submitted on the 24th of March to the Code of Conduct Bureau and received by the Head of Federal Commission Bureau, Saad Abdullahi Abubakar, who is the head of the assets declaration exercise in charge of the North-East zone.

The Principal Private Secretary of the Former Governor, Alh. Sadisu Usman, submitted the form on his behalf.

Others that have submitted their assets declaration form, CCB1, after their tenure expired in the past administration include 20 Commissioners, 42 Special Advisers, Senior Special Assistants and Personal Assistants, 35 Board Chairman/ Members and 14 former lawmakers at the Bauchi State House of Assembly.

The Commissioners are; Haruna Deke Mohammed, Hon Ministry of Justice, Babaginda Nasiru Giade , Commissioner of S.E.M.E.D., Ibrahim Ayuba Suleiman, Ministry of Water Resources, Umar Ibrahim Mohammed, Ministry of housing, Ado Sarkin Asks Zigau, Ministry of Religious Affairs, Dr Zuwaira Hassan Ibrahim, Ministry of Health, Hon. Shehu Abubakar, Ministry of Works and Transport, Mohammed Sani Bashir, Ministry of Power and Technology.

Others are; Umar Ibrahim Sade, Commissioner Ministry of Information, Mohammed Aminu, Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, Abubakar D. Ibrahim, Ministry of Youth and Sport, Alh. Samson Rifkatu Danna, Ministry of Environment, Rukayya Ibrahim Kewa, Ministry of Women Affairs, Danwanka Haruna Abdullahi, Ministry of Education, Yakubu Kirfi , Ministry of Agriculture, Musa Kaila Baima ,Ministry of Solid Minerals, Magaji Abubakar Dambam, Ministry of Budget and Planning, Nasiruddeen Mohammed, Ministry of Local Government, Garba Sarki Akuyam, Ministry of Finance.

The Principal Private Secretary to the Governor, Alh. Sadisu Abdulmumini Usman, the Chief of Staff, and Deputy Chief of Staff have also declared their assets in accordance with the constitution.

Section 185 subsection (1) to the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria states that ” The person elected to the office of the Governor of a state shall not begin to perform the function of that office until he has declared his assets and liabilities as prescribed in this Constitution, and has subsequently taken and subscribed the oath of a Allegiance and Oath of office prescribed in the seventh schedule to this Constitution.

Section 187 (2) reveals further that ”The Provide of this chapter relating to the qualification for election tenure of office disqualifications, declaration of assets and liabilities and oaths of Governor shall apply in relation to the office of Deputy Governor as it references to Governor were references to Deputy Governor.
